DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Some lawmakers including House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and Davao del Norte representative Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, gathered last night at the presidential guest house in Davao City.

They discussed plans to push certain priority bills under the incoming administration, such as federalism, reinstatement of the death penalty and amendment of the Pangilinan Law.

Also discussed was the possible creation of a “super majority coalition” in the Lower House.

Joining the coalition are NUP, NP, Lakas and the Liberal Party of President Benigno Aquino III.

“Well, with the support of speaker Belmonte that would become a super majority,” Rep. Alvarez said.

Currently, the PDP-Laban is coordinating with the Makabayan Bloc for a possible coalition.

Belmonte said the decision to unite with PDP-Laban is only applicable at the lower house. The senate has yet to take a stand on the issue.

“President Noynoy basically doesn’t want to get involve in this. Except that he knows that a lot of LP members want to join the ruling majority as a coalition or as an individual,” Belmonte said.

Belmonte has no direct answer when asked about the possibility of him returning to his original party which is PDP-Laban.

For his part, Alvarez said over 200 congressmen have already signified support to the Duterte administration.
