QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Free Wi-Fi service will be provided at all MRT Line 3 stations beginning next month following installation of cellsites within the station premises by a telecom company.
According to MRT management, the said free Wi-Fi service will help a lot in monitoring problems within the stations and inside the trains.
The MRT management urges commuters to post on Facebook and Twitter all problems encountered and glitches that they experience inside the trains or within the station premises.
“This would help the passengers and for transparency. The passengers can report if there are problems almost real time. We can pick them up because they can post it on social media,” MRT executive assistant Joel Erestain said.
The Wi-Fi service can be accessed at the platform area and inside the trains.
However, each passenger is given only up to 30 minutes to avail the free Wi-Fi.
A commuter needs to accept the conditions applied before he or she could access to the free Wi-Fi service.
The telco allocated 256kbps internet speed which the commuters could use.
“It’s good to have Wi-Fi service inside the train so in case of emergency, we could inform our friends right away online,” said commuter Noemi Dancalan.
Only one telecommunications company has agreed, so far, to the project of giving free Wi-Fi service. The MRT management said they are still open to considering companies who wish to join the project.
