MANILA, Philippines – Suspended lawyer Ely Pamatong on Wednesday, June 6, filed a quo warranto petition against President Rodrigo Duterte at the Supreme Court (SC).

Pamatong was among the presidential hopefuls in the 2016 elections but was declared a nuisance candidate.

In his 23-page petition, Pamatong argued that Duterte’s certificate of candidacy in the 2016 presidential race was never approved even until the day of the elections itself.

According to Pamatong, it means Duterte has no constitutional authority to assume the presidency. He added that Duterte also has no right to sign legislation and initiate loan deals with other countries.

Pamatong also noted that Duterte’s candidacy was not valid because of a clerical mistake in the COC of then PDP Laban member Martin Diño. In his COC, Diño filed for president but on the next page, it was discovered that he was actually running for mayor of Pasay City. – UNTV News & Rescue
