PAMPANGA, Philippines — Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) Regional Training Center-3 granted scholarships to the six poorest and most diligent elementary students in Magalang, Pampanga on Tuesday, June 12.
This is under the I-Care Adopt a Student program launched by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in line with the 120th celebration of Independence Day.
“Parang Independence Day, yung freedom ba. We can be free from poverty and the only vehicle na yung advocacy natin is education. Yun lang ang paraan to help your parents and to prepare yourself to have your own family,” said PPSC President PDDG Ricardo F. De Leon.
(It’s like the freedom that you celebrate during Independence Day. We can be free from poverty and the only vehicle out of it is education. That is the only way you can help your parents and prepare yourself to raise a family of your own.)
Tricia May Ponteras, one of the chosen beneficiaries and a paternal orphan is thankful for the opportunity.
“Makakapagtapos na ako ng walang ginagastos ang mama ko po para po hindi na siya nahihirapan,” she said.
(I will now be able to finish school without burdening my mother with expenses.)
Lola Erlinda Rivera is also grateful because her granddaughter is among the scholarship recipients.
“Unang-una po maraming maraming salamat sa nagbigay ng tulong sa apo ko, sa nagbigay ng scholarship,” said Rivera.

Apart from this, the PNP distributed free school supplies, bags, and slippers to students. They also conducted a feeding program for 100 students of Sto. Niño Elementary School and Ayala Elementary School. — Leslie Longboen | UNTV News & Rescue
